Hi,
Is it possible to copy a site content type from one site collection to another?
I can't see a way to do this?

Ideal.
Thank you for your detailed post.

We just rolled out our enterprise portal in July and that includes the storage of about 500,000 documents across 20-30 site collections.ccent course
Before fully understanding the MOSS platform and managed properties, I thought it was a huge weakness that content types and site columns could ccie certificationnot be propagated across the entire farm, so we had our MS partner develop a mini-tool that would look at one master site and copy all of the content types and site columns from the master site to all stated site collections.
Now that I know more about the managed ase certificationproperties and how you can search data in differently named fields from other sites in one shot, my requirements for content type synchronization have changed.
We are planning on internally developing a tool that would allow us to set up the content types and site collections on a master site. And then through the tool, allow an administrator to pick which CTs he/she wants to push to which sites. The point dumpsof this tool would be to ensure consistencies when assigning managed properties and to take the labor out of setting up the CTs. This would also eliminate the overhead of not having CTs on sites where they will not be used.
Hi,
Is it possible to migrate content (using Migrator) from a site in one server with sharepoint 2003 to a site in another server with sharepoint 2007?
Thanks in advance,
Ignacio.
Hilary,
Thanks for you post. Currently the process of copying content types is a 3 step process:
1) Compare sites - once the sites your source and target sites are loaded into MetaVis, compre the sites (see demo http://www.metavistech.com/node/84)
2) Copy content type from one site diagram to another (at the end of the same demo http://www.metavistech.com/node/84)
3) Deploy to SharePoint (see http://www.metavistech.com/node/38)
Since this is a very popular feature, we are planning to add the ability to drag and drop content types acros sites in one of the upcoming releases. This will eliminate steps 1 and 2 from above.

Brilliant - thank you.
This worked well, although it would not deploy the content type until I had also included the dependent columns, which it didn't inform me which they were, so I had to figure that one out myself :-)
Drag and drop functionality for content type and columns will be VERY handy.
This product is going to be very useful. Any idea on final costs?

I attempted this exact sequence to copy content types between my site and a subsite.
- The differences between the sites as displayed after doing a "compare" did not complete. Only the List differences were included - the content type differences were not determined
- It failed with an error on one list with status, "Diagram Update This operation cannot be completed due to SharePoint rules"
Any ideas?
Hi Robert,
If one site is a subsite of the other one (direct or indirect) then we deliberately skip content types from the compare because it may produce duplicates: copying content type to the parent site will inherit this type from this parent site again. Could it be your case?
Thank you,
Mark
That is exactly the scenario.
So I am left with a situation where I would like to move (not copy) a content type from a subsite to a parent site. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Bob
PS - I love your product. It's definitely worthy of "missing link" status among Sharepoint tools!
Hilary,
Glad to hear it worked out, but I would like to get some more info on the dependent column issue. The content type should have been left pending until the column was copied. If you can provide some screenshots of what you saw and send them to support@metavistech.com, it would be much appreciated.
The pricing is still up in the air but the product will start around $995 USD. We would like to hear your thoughts on appropriate pricing.
MetaVis Support
Yes, it was pending, but it didn't tell me which columns were dependent.
